[Azarius Scevola]

Azarius smiled cynically as Loretta visibly brightened upon entering the store. Typical girl, he thought as she examined the shelves in front of her, blocking the way of two glowering sixth years, neither of whom could get her attention. He had to admit that Honeydukes was an appealing store, though. It didn't make him feel good, though, for like all stores it simply reminded him that he was too poor to actually buy anything. He didn't feel the urge to own material things strongly enough to be tempted to steal, although sometimes the thought crossed his mind when he saw places that practically invited theft.

"You sound like a Muggle," Azarius replied to her question, somewhat scornfully. "Did you come from Beauxbatons, or some Muggle school?" Despite his contempt at her ignorance, he answered her question. "Pretty much any flavour you can think of," he admitted. "Including snot, so be careful."

"Your know the more time I spend with you the more I want to punch you in the nose" Loretta said trying to sound serious but it was impossible "That was a joke by the way"
Grabbing a few galleons from her pocket and went over to the counter.
"To answer you question, I came from Beauxbatons, thank you very much" Loretta said paying the woman behind the counter "But we had different candy. We had Caramel Skulls, Fizzing Cup Cakes and, my favourite, Hallucinating Lolly Pops! You suck them and then for the next five minutes everything goes mad"
Remembering her first time eating a Hallucinating Lolly Pop made her smile once more. She had no idea what she looked like but everything else was weird. Walls moved, the floor span and she also thought her best friend, Adele, was a rhino. An overactive imagination of a first year didn't help either. She had got terrified when she started to see magots coming out of her drinks, the toilet and the sinks. She had fell down the stairs running away.
It wasn't surprising that the candy got banned.
"You know what, I reckon I should get you something" Loretta said turning around to Azarius after they had escaped the heavily packed shop "Not anything to big just something to say thanks. I've plenty of cash so don't worry about that, what would you like?"

Azarius glowered as she joked about punching him in the nose. He didn't appreciate comments about people wanting to hurt him, even if it was a joke. He was used to people hurting him -- his father, first and foremost, and then any guys he pissed off at Hogwarts -- but it didn't make him okay with the idea.

"Hallucinating Lollipops sound like Muggle drugs," he mused, following Loretta up to the counter. "I could see them at Durmstrang, but I didn't know France was that open."

"I don't want charity," he spat at her, instantly returning to his grumpy mood. He scowled at her and crossed his arms. "If you say it again I'll leave you here and you're never seeing me again."

"Ok! It wasn't charity anyway it was saying thanks" Loretta said trying to calm him down "Not just for showing me around but for being able to put up with me when you could be having fun with your mates"
Loretta was fairly annoyed with his regular mood changes but she knew that she wasn't much better. She continously changed her mood. One minute she's crying then she's giddy and now she's annoyed. It's confusing enough to drive you mad.
"By the way they were based on the drug and France wasn't that open to Hallucinating Lolly Pops" Loretta said trying to change the subject "It got banned after three months, I was devastated. It made for a good laugh on a Friday night"

What mates? Azarius thought to himself, becoming bitter at the thought. After his first year finished and he was friendless, he told himself that it would change in the second year. When that too finished with no appearance of friends, he managed, with some effort, to convince himself that he'd have friends in third year. Now that he was a sixth year and still could not lay claim to any of the Hogwarts students as his friends, he wallowed in bitterness every time he thought of it.

This current encounter was the most pleasant he'd had for several weeks, and he didn't want to blow it. It wasn't going to last anyway, and he knew that after the brief high of feeling like a real person he always crashed harder than before, but as always he gripped onto the opportunity with as much strength as he could.

In order to keep this one going, Azarius figured he needed to be less aggressive. He might not like people pitying him, but it was better to say 'no, thanks' than to make a scene with an outburst.

"Sorry," he mumbled, shamefaced. He was glad of the subject change. "I'm surprised it was allowed in the first place. Were you allowed them in school?"

"At first" Loretta said glad he had calmed down "Nobody knew the effects would be quite so big. The problem was the more imaginative you were the longer and more powerfull the Hallucination was. Considering it was mainly first years buying it, it caused problems. It was banned from school in a week and after two weeks the ministry made it 18+ so only the seventh years could buy it and not in school time. I hated it"
Loretta had been alone for the past five weeks, out of her own choice. She had been locked in her bedroom at her aunts house and for a short period of time she had refused to eat and was doing everything possible to annoy her new family. Her cousin, Taylor, thought she was a show off and a moronic half-wit. Loretta would normally rip the head off anyone who said this but considering she was only ten and, as far as Loretta knew, a muggle she didn't care.
"As I said they got banned altogether after three months" Loretta said "You know what you and I both need? Some fun!"
Loretta said trying to think up something that would be fun but all that came to mind was punching sever Slytherins. Loretta also knew not everyone shared her agressive sense of humour and so didn't voice her opinions. She rattled her brain trying to think of something they could do but much to her annoyance she merely came up blank.
"Do you have any idea's?"

"I'm glad they banned it," Azarius said with forced casualness. His father had instilled in him a fierce loathing of drugs -- mostly alcohol -- the only good thing he'd ever done, the boy thought savagely. He wasn't about to explain that to Loretta, though.

"Fun?" He said the word as though it was foreign to him. "I don't do stuff for fun."

"Ok well I guess we could just continue talking" Loretta said as she stuffed her frozen fingers into her pockets "If we are going to be friends we should at least know some basic facts about each other. Whats your favourite colour? Whats your favourite food and what do you want to do when you finish Hogwarts?"
Her abrupt questions were purposely aimed to produce a conversation.

[Sorry for the slow reply. I thought James was going to reply, but obviously not. Hope the last paragraph is ok.]

They left Honeydukes and Azarius set the pace, not sure where he was going but knowing that he wanted to get out of the cold. He walked aimlessly and they went into the first door they came to -- which turned out to be Madam Puddifoot's, a sickly sweet, stuffy, 'lovers' teashop. Azarius's skin prickled with sweat as soon as they stepped in, and he pulled a face and turned around, hoping Loretta wouldn't want to stay there.

She'd asked him questions as they walked, and he thought about them. He found the idea of being friends far-fetched; she'd change her mind soon enough. "My favourite colour is grey," he answered, trying not to breathe in the cloying sweetness of the air. "My favourite food is steak and cheese pie; when I finish Hogwarts, I want to be a Dark Wizard." He was joking about the last answer, mostly, but he didn't like people knowing his real plans for his life.

"Why don't you ever wear your uniform properly?" He'd seen her around, in classes and in the halls, with one or several parts of her uniform missing or modified. When she did wear her robe, it was mussed and her clothing underneath was clearly not regulation. She kept getting in trouble for it, and he wondered why she bothered. What did she get out of it?

"Individuality" Loretta said looking around the tea room befour quickly following Azarius back out "I'd rather get in trouble and have people see who I really am than be good and become a sheep"
Loretta quickly saw something wrong with her answer. What if he thought she had called him a sheep? She hadn't seen his uniform much so didn't know if he'd come under that catagory.
"Not saying your a sheep though, its quite obvious your not. Its just I don't want to be instantly placed in the same group as the others in my class before they even know me. If that means no one likes me and I'm a trouble making gimp well thats my problem"
The wind picked up slightly and Loretta zipped up her jacket and pulled her hands into her pockets. She remembered how he had answered her questions.
"Gray is an interesting colour, would you class silver as it or not? I would, the only difference really is silvers shiny" Weird and random conversations should be the title of Loretta's biography if ever she wrote one, how many other people discuss whether silver is counted as grey "As for the food you've probably guessed that I like sweets, and when it comes to the career thing I have no clue at all but I will decide one day"

Loretta's response didn't make sense to Azarius, and he said so. "Why care about if people think you're a sheep or not? Surely you can't feel that you won't be you anymore if you wear different clothes." They left the suffocating place, Azarius glad that although Loretta was strange to risk trouble to be 'different', she was actually different enough from most girls to not like such a place. He assumed she didn't like it; she'd left with no complaint.

"No, grey isn't silver. It's grey," he replied, steering them towards Zonko's. "Silver is too bright and noticeable to be grey. It's shallow, flashy. Grey is deep and subtle." They pushed past a pair of students, who were walking side by side and giggling into each others' faces. "You didn't say what your favourite colour is."

They went into the joke shop, Azarius noting it wasn't as warm as either Madam Puddifoot's or Honeydukes. A firework of some sort came screaming over a shelf and he ducked; it whooshed over his head, cackled gleefully and then turned around to dive-bomb Loretta.

Before Loretta could think, Azarius ducked and a swirling firework came firing over his head. Instincs weren't fast enough and Loretta couldn't duck fast enough. The firwork hit her straight in the forehead, knocking her to the ground. She felt a slight trickle of blood drip down her forehead. Quickly, trying to avoid embarrasment she wiped the blood away and got back to her feet. Two possibly three metres away was a group of five boys in a fit of giggles. They were definitly older than she was and possibly older than Azarius.
Loretta was hot with anger. Was it them who had sent the firework hurtling over? Even if it wasn't what right did they have to laugh at her. Loretta pulled her wand out and defianlty marched over to the group. They weren't giggling now.
"Think its funny do you? Hows this? DENSAUGEO!" Loretta didn't care if the whole shop was watching she was getting revenge whilst it was hot.
She waited the seconds until her spell had taken effect it didn't take long. The two front teeth of each boy grew longer and longer until it hung over their lower lip and came down to their chin.
"I'm not done yet! FURNUNCULUS!" Loretta was pleased with her self now.
She couldn't keep herself from bursting into hysterics. The boys now had teeth a rabbit would be proud of and six large boils on their face and many more appearing on their necks and arms.
"Now THAT is what I call funny"
Loretta controlled her laughter before turning back to Azarius to answer his question
"My Favourite colour is green"
