At H:OS we have a canon character lease program which allows members to lease a canon character and play them as long as they are active members of the site. Canon characters available for lease are found in the H:OS shop. The initial lease purchase price is high, and varies by the character, but the fee to continue the lease is 250 Galleons (about a post's worth). Most of the site's plot will still revolve around original characters, and there are no activity checks for original characters.

Guidelines for Leasing Canon Characters

Playing Canon Characters
You may only play a canon or display a canon surname by purchasing that canon or surname through the shop. Canons and canon surnames will always be alternate subaccounts.

Canon Extensions
You must purchase a canon extension from the shop each month. You have two weeks from the end of your lease to extend the lease of your canon character.

Extension Periods
You may purchase your lease extension up to a month ahead of time, but no more.

Lease Lapses
Repeated lease lapses where you wait until the end of the two week grace period may result in the removal of your right to play that canon character.

Special Circumstances
There is no reason you should be away for more than a month and a half except in very special circumstances, such as summer camps or overseas semesters where being online would not be possible. In those cases, please speak with an admin. Otherwise, you are expected to uphold the lease of your canon character.

Canon Surnames
You may purchase a canon surname for your original character alt. There is no continual lease fee for this option.

Lease Agreement
By leasing a canon character, you agree to the terms as stated. We reserve the right to change the rules and guidelines as we see fit, but we will gain input and give advance notice on any changes.

Guidelines for Playing Canon Characters

Proximity
At this time, no canon characters are involved with Hogwarts, whether as a student, teaching, or otherwise. You may play them in the Ministry of Magic and other RP areas outside Hogwarts. We will be expanding these areas as the adult character list grows.

Authenticity
By accepting the lease, you agree to play them in the spirit of the character as JKR wrote it. Putting your own spin on it and developing plots is fine as long as you are aiming to develop their story with the original character's past and future in mind.

Continuity
If you are leasing a canon character that has already been played on the site, please review their past history and posts so you can continue their story. Please do not revoke past history, but you can take them in new directions once you've started playing them.
